Costa Mesa Soccer (AYSO Region 120)

Calling all Extra and All Star players

Hello parents of AYSO Region 120 (Costa Mesa),

I hope you are all finding your routines with soccer, school, and life.
As the Advanced Play Coordinator I just want to let everyone know about 2 unique programs within our AYSO Region which provide a higher level of soccer for your son or daughter, if they are ready for that opportunity.

The two programs are 1) AYSO EXTRA team and 2) AYSO ALL-STAR team
1) The EXTRA teams are a year round team which stays together, and represents our most skilled players against the most skilled players from the other regions around us.

For those who want to play harder and still be a part of AYSO, EXTRATMis perfect! This program gives AYSO athletes a more progressive soccer experience. With the right balance of competition and inclusion, you can feel secure knowing your child is part of a trusted organization and will be given fair playing time.

The EXTRA team holds open tryouts once per year (which will be Tuesday evening Nov. 19th for girls, Wednesday Nov. 20th for boys and a second tryout date for both on Saturday Nov 23rd) and selects the most skilled players from their region, who will then form a team and play the most skilled players from other local regions/cities (Mesa FC represent!). The EXTRA team plays together during Spring season (optional), possibly a summer tournament, and competes in an EXTRA league for the Fall season (Mandatory).

The EXTRA team provides an increased level of competition and fits in with the soccer development pathway for elite soccer players.
EXTRA teams will be formed for players born 2007-2012 (2013 players can try out for the 2012 team) if there are enough players who tryout, at a sufficient skill level, and there is a coach who embodies the AYSO six core philosophies (1. Positive Coaching 2. Player Development 3. Good Sportsmanship 4. Everyone Plays 5. Balanced teams 6. Open Registration).

If you are interested in Coaching or helping out as an Assistant Coach of this team please fill out the coaching application for the Extra  program.
If your son or daughter is interested in trying out for this team go to http://www.ayso120.org and sign up for the EXTRA team tryouts.
2. AYSO ALL-STAR Season is a one month season in January, with a cost of $60 which includes uniforms and an All Star Hoodie, where the most skilled AYSO Core program players form a team to take on the most skilled players from the other Regions around us.

We are planning on having All Star teams for 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U for boys and girls.
The ALL-STAR team will be formed for age groups based on the availability of a coach who embodies the six core philosophies (1. Positive Coaching 2. Player Development 3. Good Sportsmanship 4. Everyone Plays 5. Balanced teams 6. Open Registration).
There is no open tryout for this team, as it is formed after the fall season concludes by the coach of the ALL-STAR team based on the recommendations of each Core coach during the Fall season.

Teams be formed in December for practices, and will be competing in January. The team will then be disbanded after the January season, and the players will either join the EXTRA team for their birth year (if they tried out and made that team), or be redistributed among the Core program for Spring.

If you are interested in Coaching or helping out as an Assistant Coach of this team please fill out the coaching application for the Allstar  program.

If your child is interested in making the ALL-STAR team, work hard in practice and during games; you will be noticed and added to these teams.
* If your child is currently on a core team they could tryout for the EXTRA team in November, practice and play for the ALL-STAR team in January, and then join the EXTRA team in February for the remainder of the year.

If you have any further questions you can email me at [email protected] or see our website http://www.ayso120.org
See you out there on the fields.
